2017 seems to be bringing in a whole lot of Anniversaries.   
   * Canada is turning 150
   * 4-H in Alberta reaches 100 years this year as well
   * Remebering Pearl Harbor - 75 years after
   * Stephen Hawking turned 75 in January
   * Dolly the Sheep was cloned 20 years ago
   * We lost Elvis Presly 40 years ago
   * And already 20 years since we lost Princess Diana.
   * 50 years ago was the first successful Heart Transplant surgery

Plus so many more that I am sure we are forgetting to mention.    However the biggest celebration this year in our eyes is a local Airdrie Celebration:

50 years of Rodeo in Airdrie

It all started when the Airdrie Lions Club hosted a gymkhana & rodeo, along with a parade for the Canada Day celebrations.  As the years went by it became a full rodeo sanctioned by the Foothills Cowboy Association (FCA).  The Airdrie Rodeo Ranch Association was formed, and took over the reins, organizing this event.  Through the years, the rodeo became “pro” status and currently runs a 5 day rodeo with a daily performance every year around the July 1 holiday.  Airdrie rodeo is sanctioned with both the CPRA and the PRCA.

Hundreds of hours are spent each year by a number of volunteers to help make this event happen.  Throughout the past 50 years many spectators, sponsors, and volunteers have come to support this rodeo over and over.  

To commemorate the upcoming 50 years of the Airdrie Rodeo, we want to offer Past, Present and Future supporters, an opportunity to purchase one of the following plaques.  

The plaques will be mounted on a dedicated wall in the current Beer Gardens circling a one-dimensional bronc rider made out of horseshoes donated by the community.  Once the wall has been filled to capacity, we will be looking at adding them to a portable fence, which will encompass the children’s area.
