Golden Rod - Funny Money Casino Fundraiser - April 1/17

When Katie and I were crowned, never did we ever think that we would have to deal cards (Blackjack specifically).  Yet on April 1st, we both found ourselves behind the tables at the Golden Rod Funny Money Casino.

With both of us being home town girls, it was a night of reunions as so many family and friends flocked through the doors. So many generations of family’s have grown up in Airdrie and to see some of the City’s earliest members sitting down to play black jack with their children and in some cases, grandchildren.

We began dealing out cards at 7 and went well into the night. I was fortunate to deal to Arlene Olsen & her daughter Lynn, long time sponsors of the beautiful Queen pendant, designed and made by Becker Buckles!   Olsen's have been in community, since it's hayday.
I was also fortunate to hear stories of my grandpa and great aunt who had taught many of the community memebers, at one of the first schools in Airdrie.
We also got some great visits in with fellow Airdrie Pro Rodeo member, our Facility direcors Rob Ellis and Heather  Anderson.

As the night went on, the crowd grew, it got louder and the winnings got bigger and by the end of the night, I became quite confident in my counting multiple ways to 21.
Also had 2 exciting games of Red Dog going on in the corners of the room, which lead to a lot of the commotion.  BIG Losses followed by some BIG wins.
As everyone counted their piles of money, a midnight lunch was served and it was onto the live auction.
Tools, Clothing, gravel, decore, John Deer swag, "mystery bags" and candy were just some of the items that auctioned off using your earned FUNNY MONEY at the end of the night.
All the proceeds from ticket sales and re-buys went back to help Support the Golden Rod Hall.

Never have I felt an energy in the room like that, it was the feeling that I had growing up here, that small town feel. Everyone knows everyone and if you don’t, you are still welcomed like family.
