Giddy-up Rodeo & Aggie Days - April 8/17

Animals have a special bond with humans, there is no doubt about that.

Aggie Days is a special event put on at the Stampede grounds where family’s can come and learn about how their food is made, where it comes from and about they animals that help create it.

Early on Saturday morning, the Stampede Queens Alumni host a very special event where children with special needs can come in and get the “royal experience”, participate and take part in Rodeo & Western themed activities. They get to come and meet the Stampede Royalty, play with dogs, ducks, horses and rabbits and get front row seats for the sheep dog show. Watching the faces of children and adults as they get to experience things that we are country folk see every day, makes me truly appreciate what I have in my back yard.

As we wandered around the show, there were many familiar faces and many new ones! The coolest thing about wearing a crown is knowing that people are not afraid to come up and ask you question and sometimes its about things you may not know, but that means that you get to learn as well!
Did you know that corn oil is one of the healthiest oils and it is made and bottled right here in Alberta.  Or that milk should be stored at a temperature of 4 degrees and NOT in the door of the fridge!

No matter your experience or how much you think you know there is always something to learn! Not only did we learn about our crops, but we also learned about some of the special events at Stampede.

One of our amazing sponsors is Roper represented by Jim Nevada, a legend in the chuckwagon racing world. When we saw the opportunity to experience what he does on top of the wagons we took it, of course that ended up with us taking some pretty awesome photos.

The most memorable part of the entire day was when we tested our strength. Heavy horses work in teams for the draft pull and they are very very strong. Katie and hooked up to the harnesses and pulled as hard as we could but we were no where near the amount they are.

Watch our video here:

Never the less it was a day well spent at Aggie Days, walking around and seeing my world being shared with others makes me proud to be a farm women and proud to wear this crown! I am forever blessed with the life that I live and the opportunities I have been given and I can only hope to share them with more people.

Golden Rod - Funny Money Casino Fundraiser - April 1/17

When Katie and I were crowned, never did we ever think that we would have to deal cards (Blackjack specifically).  Yet on April 1st, we both found ourselves behind the tables at the Golden Rod Funny Money Casino.

With both of us being home town girls, it was a night of reunions as so many family and friends flocked through the doors. So many generations of family’s have grown up in Airdrie and to see some of the City’s earliest members sitting down to play black jack with their children and in some cases, grandchildren.

We began dealing out cards at 7 and went well into the night. I was fortunate to deal to Arlene Olsen & her daughter Lynn, long time sponsors of the beautiful Queen pendant, designed and made by Becker Buckles!   Olsen's have been in community, since it's hayday.
I was also fortunate to hear stories of my grandpa and great aunt who had taught many of the community memebers, at one of the first schools in Airdrie.
We also got some great visits in with fellow Airdrie Pro Rodeo member, our Facility direcors Rob Ellis and Heather  Anderson.

As the night went on, the crowd grew, it got louder and the winnings got bigger and by the end of the night, I became quite confident in my counting multiple ways to 21.
Also had 2 exciting games of Red Dog going on in the corners of the room, which lead to a lot of the commotion.  BIG Losses followed by some BIG wins.
As everyone counted their piles of money, a midnight lunch was served and it was onto the live auction.
Tools, Clothing, gravel, decore, John Deer swag, "mystery bags" and candy were just some of the items that auctioned off using your earned FUNNY MONEY at the end of the night.
All the proceeds from ticket sales and re-buys went back to help Support the Golden Rod Hall.

A proud winner of a ladies poncho

The "Candy" item was a huge hit.
                                                 Beautiful Montana Silversmith Jewelry

Famous "Mystery" Bag

Never have I felt an energy in the room like that, it was the feeling that I had growing up here, that small town feel. Everyone knows everyone and if you don’t, you are still welcomed like family.

Thank You Sponsors - 2016 Year with Emily Martson & Katie Hlushak

There are a lot of different pieces that must fall together for the Airdrie Pro Rodeo Royalty Program to come together year after year.

Number 1 is of course - Contestants.  Without Contestants, there would be no program.
Ever year I panic a little, always awaiting that application deadline date.  The anticipation of how many completed applications I will be getting puts a great deal of stress and anxiety onto my shoulders as Pageant Director.  I think year after year, it actually gets harder and heightens my nerves.
I am excited to announce that we will have 3 lucky ladies vying for the title this year of our Miss Rodeo Airdrie 2017.
Stay tuned as I will have more to say about them in the coming months before we crown at our Annual Performance on Sunday July 2, 2017

Now that we have our contestants all gearing up and ready for competition, I am on the lookout for our 2017 Sponsors.  Please be sure to contact myself at airdrierodeoroyalty@yahoo.ca, if you would like to come on board as one of our 2017 sponsors.  We'd love to add you to the list.  The Sponsorship Packages can be customized.

The girls would not have the opportunities they do if not for our most amazing Sponsors.  Year after year these people and buisiness' support the thousands of km's the girls travel, the numerous outfits they must appear in, the can's of hairspray used to hold those curls and so many more.

A huge shout out to all of the 2016 Sponsors that have helped Emily Marston and Katie Hlushak during their reign as our 2016 Airdrie Pro Rodeo Royalty.  Thank You.
